What we collect and why

Henderson, TX News uses a small set of standard tools to understand how many people read the site, which stories they read and how they find us. We do not sell information about our readers. This page explains what is collected, who handles it and the choices you have.

What we collect

And why
  • Usage and device information. When you allow analytics cookies, our tools record things like the pages you view, how long you stay, the site or link that brought you here, your general location (city or region), and your browser and device type. We use this to see which stories people read and to improve the site.
  • Server logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider records basic technical details for each visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs keep the site running and secure.
  • Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe to our weekly newsletter, we keep your email address and use it only to send the newsletter. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list. The newsletter is sent through GoHighLevel, which stores the subscriber list and shows us basic delivery reports, such as whether an issue was opened. GoHighLevel’s privacy policy is at gohighlevel.com/privacy-policy.
  • Tips and emails. If you email us a tip, correction or question, we receive your message, your email address and anything you attach. We use it only to report, check the record or reply to you. We do not publish a tipster’s name or contact details without permission.
  • Hero nominations. If you nominate someone for Henderson Hero of the Month, we receive what you type into the form, which may include your name and how to reach you. We use it only to review the nomination and, if needed, to follow up with you. We will not publish your name or contact details without your permission.
  • Cookie and accessibility choices. When you accept or decline cookies, or change settings in the accessibility tool, your browser stores that choice so the site remembers it.

Analytics and advertising tools

Who handles the data
  • Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. Google Analytics measures visits and reading activity. Google Tag Manager is how those tools are loaded on the site. Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Mixpanel. Mixpanel helps us measure how readers move through the site and which features they use. Its privacy policy is at mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
  • Meta Pixel. The Meta (Facebook) Pixel tells us when visitors come to the site from Facebook and lets us reach people who have read our stories when we promote posts on Facebook. Meta may connect this activity to your Facebook account if you are logged in. Meta’s privacy policy is at facebook.com/privacy/policy.
  • Google Search Console. Search Console shows us which Google searches lead people to the site. It uses Google’s own search data and does not add anything to the pages you read.

These companies process the data under their own policies. We see reports, mostly in summary form, and we do not try to identify individual readers.

What we do not do

By design
  • No selling of reader data. We do not sell or rent information, including newsletter email addresses, to anyone.
  • No advertising from public bodies or vendors. We do not run ads for any government, vendor, candidate or political committee.
  • No reader accounts or comments. You never need to sign in, and the site does not publish reader comments.

Cookies and your choices

You decide

The cookie banner lets you accept or decline optional cookies, including analytics and advertising cookies. Cookies the site needs to work, such as the one that stores your choice, are always on. To change your choice, clear cookies for hendersontx.org in your browser and the banner will appear again on your next visit.

  • Google Analytics. You can also use Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
  • Meta. You can control how Meta uses off-site activity in your Facebook settings under “Your activity off Meta technologies.”
  • Your browser. Most browsers let you block third-party cookies or send a “do not track” signal.

Other services

What else loads
  • Hosting. The site is hosted by Hostinger, which processes the server logs described above.
  • Fonts. Some page fonts load from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google.
  • Email. Tips and other email to us are handled by our email provider, Titan, and the newsletter is sent through GoHighLevel.
  • Links to other sites. Our stories link to official records on government and other websites. Those sites have their own privacy rules, and we do not control them.

Requests

Deleting your information

To ask what we have about you, or to have a tip, email or nomination deleted, email us at the address on our Send a Tip page and put “Privacy request” in the subject line. We will delete what you ask us to, unless we are required to keep it. To leave the newsletter, use the unsubscribe link in any issue. Data held by Google, Mixpanel or Meta is managed through those companies’ own tools.

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.
